Gold Star Mother

The family of Gene Skiba presented the NBAHS with seven boxes of his archives.  Included in the boxes were past copies of the New Brighton Bulletin plus clippings and scrapbooks from that paper, copies of his “This and Data” articles, “History Capsules,” “Historical Photos of the Week,” and “Remember When” clippings, Village of New Brighton ledgers, from 1891-1922, plus about 400 photos which have been entered into our photography database.

Also included were documents from Lizzie Schafman, a Gold Star Mother, whose son, Walter Schafman, died in World War I, and for whom VFW Post #724 is named. Some of those documents are shown on this page.
