Rhubarb Fest 2013

The public was invited to the Sixteenth Annual “Rhubarb Fest,” sponsored by the New Brighton Area Historical Society (NBAHS) and which is intended to honor the Hipp Family and the many young men and women who worked the fields at Joe Hipp’s Lakeside Berry Farm in Long Lake Park from the 1920s to the 1980s. The Hipps also grew strawberries, squash and other vegetables at this location.

Rhubarb stock from Long Lake Park's Hipp Farm is made available to NBAHS by Dave Nathe of Elk River. This is the 29th year that the NBAHS has provided the rhubarb for Keys Restaurants. The society volunteers pull and donate 150 pounds of rhubarb and in exchange Keys bakes large rhubarb desserts to supplement those needed for the festival. An additional 250 pounds was pulled for stock sales and jam sold at the festival.
